Fructose in schools study

Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Pukemiro is the first Kura in the Far North to take part in this nationwide Fructose Study. This is the first research project to be run through 'Waharoa ki te Toi', led by our Research Assistant, Kapowairua Stephens.

"We are testing how sugar is absorbed in the body with high school students. Our goal is to engage rangatahi in world class research and build their knowledge about how the body works.

Our whakaaro is that excessive amounts of sugar is detrimental to our health. However, it is so normalised in our everyday diet. When we understand what is happening inside our bodies, we can change our attitude about what we're putting into them."
