Looking for inspiration, I decided to take a year out of medical school and return home.
This year I have been fortunate enough to step into this role as part of the Waharoa Ki Te Toi initiative. Although I am new to this kaupapa, I was drawn to the position because of the opportunity to connect with the communities I've been raised in and uplift the korero around the absolute importance of whanau health and education.
I feel revitalised by our small communities - rich in culture and connection, to the land and to each other. We are so lucky to belong to the North!
Our mahi can be full on and is very diverse. However, it is immensely rewarding and I look forward to the challenges ahead.
